Blackwater Hosts SAG Stop for BikeMO 2024
The 2024 BikeMO event in Missouri faced another year of heavy rains, but that didn’t deter hundreds of determined cyclists from tackling the scenic ride. This year’s route took riders on a 62-mile journey through historic towns, starting in Boonville and passing through Blackwater and Arrow Rock. The Blackwater Rail Depot played a crucial role as a SAG (Support and Gear) stop along the way. Riders appreciated the depot as a place to refuel and rest and as a much-needed shelter from the relentless downpour.
Despite the challenging weather, participants remained enthusiastic, with the depot serving as a welcoming oasis amidst the rain. Volunteers from the Blackwater community ensured the SAG stop was well-stocked and ready for riders needing a break from the wet and chilly conditions. The depot’s historical ambiance added to the charm, allowing riders to experience a slice of Blackwater’s heritage while taking a breather.
The ride continued to Arrow Rock, a town rich in history and designated as a National Historic Landmark. Riders passing through had the opportunity to enjoy the preserved 19th-century architecture and explore landmarks like the Arrow Rock State Historic Site. Although rain showers were frequent, the cyclists’ spirits remained high, showing their commitment to supporting the event’s cause of advocating for safer and better biking conditions throughout Missouri.
BikeMO is an annual fundraiser organized by the Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation, which is dedicated to promoting safer and more accessible biking and walking conditions throughout Missouri. Held every August, the event gathers cyclists from around the region to ride a scenic route through historic towns like Boonville, Blackwater, and Arrow Rock. The proceeds from BikeMO help fund advocacy efforts, educational programs, and infrastructure improvements that benefit both cyclists and pedestrians across the state. By participating in BikeMO, riders not only enjoy a beautiful day of cycling but also contribute to the ongoing mission of the Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation to create safer and more bike-friendly communities.
